Bearcreek track meet
On Wednesday me Dilraj and Puneet volunteered at bearcreek park to help out at the track meet. We got there at 9:15 and when we met the teacher we were helping from Cambridge elementary we got assigned to judge all the races. I was looking for first place Dilraj was looking for second place and Puneet looked for third place so on and so on. The races started at 10 and went on and on and on non stop until 5. At first it was pretty fun and it was so cute watching all the little happy kids running around the track, but it got really repetitive and boring towards like 12 o'clock. Our job was to stand beside the finish line and once all the racers crossed the finish line we had to stand in the lane that our place ran in. So say the 1st place kid was in lane 7, I would go stand in lane 7 and then we had to take the kids sticker and walk to the field and stick it to a chart. We repeated this over and over all day. It was still fun and luckily it was cloudy and not burning hot. Although by the end of the day my butt was so sore from sitting on the bumpy rocky ledge near the track. There was this one kid that I tried to high five after the race when I collected his sticker and he just stared at my hand and walked away 😂 overall it was kind of boring but I enjoyed being at the track meet helping out rather than being at school learning.

Ha ha ha.. denied! Volunteering is definitely NOT a cake walk if you are actually working. Lot's of jobs get boring too… this was a good lesson for you. Thank you for giving of your time so the kids could have that experience. It is one of the tough parts about teaching too… you may never know how thankful they are for that day. Some of those kids who won't high five you or say thank you will go home and talk and talk about the awesome track day. Later in high school they will remember how fun elementary track was (because maybe they can;t make it in high school) but you will never get the smile or thanks for helping make it possible. One of my favourite quotes I used to use in my old school was that your true character is revealed by how you treat others who can't give you anything back. It may have been boring but you three were building character this day. Thank you (from the kids AND me).
